Outward Bound Wilderness is the nation’s leading, nonprofit
adventure-education organization.
Quality is at the core of our 40+ years of success. Staff
members and instructors embody and exemplify our founding
principles: challenge and adventure, compassion and service,
social and environmental responsibility, character development,
and learning though experience.
Outward Bound Wilderness pioneered the experiential education
movement in the United States and around the world. The innovative
process and time-tested curriculum inspires an entire industry
and is emulated by a multitude of other organizations.
As the leader in wilderness-based hands-on education, we
hold our staff to a high standard of professional performance.
From program design to on-course instruction, our staff involves
students in challenging and personally rewarding adventures.
Administrative Positions:
Outward Bound Wilderness hires regular and temporary employees
at many locations around the nation. We strongly believe that
every employee is a valued resource whose contributions are
critical to the achievement of our organization's charter
and mission. Our employees enhance the quality of our school
and our courses. Experienced and well-trained staff is our
single greatest asset and we welcome qualified people from
all walks of life. For more information on Administrative

Field Staff Positions:
Outward Bound Wilderness field staff are dedicated, skilled
individuals who choose service, education and adventure as
their career. Our field staff are the heart and soul of every
Outward Bound course and their leadership, talents and insights
will add depth to your course experience. Field staff return
to work for our organization because of the students’
lives they touch, the friendships they build with co-workers,
and for the mentoring, investment, and inspiration our communities
provide. For more information on Field Staff Positions, click

Instructors: Each instructor
typically attends three weeks of training each year and
is required to maintain Wilderness First Responder and
CPR First Aid certifications. Instructors are selected
based on their teaching, life and outdoor experience.
Logistics Coordinators: Each logistics
coordinator typically attends a week of training and is
required to maintain CPR and Standard First Aid certification.
Logistics coordinators are the backbone which enables
our students and staff to excel on their course. Logistics
coordinators work with the instructional team to facilitate
successful course events while providing students with
logistical instruction and support supporting food and
equipment. Logisticians are responsible for equipment
care and upkeep, facilitation of food preparation and
packing, and are responsible for course vehicle support.
Logistics coordinators are selected based on life experiences,
facilitation and organizational skills, and high level
of commitment to teamwork.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Occasionally, Outward Bound Wilderness seeks assistance from
dedicated volunteers who step up and help with a variety of
tasks. Without these wonderful and much appreciated volunteers,
various events and office functions would be more difficult
and timely to manage. For more information on Volunteer Opportunities,
