Alabama Five Rivers Canoeing - Intercept

Designed for 18-20 year olds who are struggling to take the next positive step in their lives, this 28-day course takes place on the unique river systems of east-central Alabama. Students will be introduced to the joys and challenges of expeditionary canoe travel, camp-craft, and group dynamics. As the course progresses, students achieve greater and greater autonomy as they practice communication skills, conflict-resolution, goal-setting and other technical skills. A distinctive element of this course is the three-day Urban/Service Section. Students take part in workshops and seminars designed to help young adults determine their next steps in life whether that is college, a new job, or simply returning home with a new outlook. The seminars are also intended to look back at their experience on course and make sure students can carry the new insights and confidence found at Outward Bound forward with them into the next stage of their lives. The Urban Section also includes service projects that offer a hands-on glimpse of a community at work. This course does not include a Parent / Guardian Seminar.
