This is a poem I wrote while on my solo island. I was on
course HIOBS HH161 with Katie Gamble and John Parsons. They
inspired me to write this poem. They influenced my life so
much. I hope they enjoy it.
A girl left to go on a long awaited journey.
When she returned home she was different;
Her hair more course,
Her skin tanned by the sun,
Her hands weathered from hard work,
Her feet callused from her travels,
Bruises from her falls and tumbles.
The physical change is not what people noticed;
rather the change in her mind and heart.
She seemed stronger and wiser than before.
She had an air of confidence and independence.
She was an individual not a conformist.
She attained exorbitant amounts of knowledge.
She became a leader not a follower.
She began to understand and appreciate the important things
in life.
Some people believed on her journey she had discovered a new
world;
and she had!
Thank you for letting me share. Outward bound has changed
my life.
