Balance. You feel it with every pull of your paddle. You gaze off the point of your bow, slicing through green waters, finding a meditative rhythm of breath, heart and muscle. Dawn burnishes the marine sky. You navigate waters full of life and wind your way along coastline, sandbar, and island, piloting your craft with new skill. Feel the wind in your face. You know you've found your place in nature.
Whatever life you had before, it's a million miles away. You're free from its pull to explore an ocean full of mystery and wildlife; manatees, sea otters, orca whales, sea turtles, dolphins. The ocean is a teacher who demands strength, spirit, and wisdom.
Travel into waters too shallow for most boats as you explore coastlines as diverse as the sandy beaches of North Carolina's Outer Banks or the the Maine north woods and navy blue waters of the Atlantic. As your skills progress, face new challenges such as crossing open water or navigating in the soft light of dawn. Discover coral reefs in the Bahamas, catch a glimpse of orca whales in Washington's San Juan Islands, or marvel at the monolithic glaciers along the Kenai Fjords in Alaska. Let the ocean test your balance and renew your sense of self.
This course is an ocean expedition in sea kayaks in the dramatic Kenai Fjords or Prince William Sound area of Alaska. Rugged coastlines, gorgeous campsites, icebergs, calving glaciers and lots of sea life make this course unique. This course is ideal for a broad range of challenge seekers and is best suited to those comfortable in the water.
